Pc Adam Westall adopted the animal after it was handed in to Colchester police station last Thursday, November 2.

The kitten, named Elsa, arrived at the station underweight and hungry, after being found abandoned by a member of the public.

Essex Police said abandoned kittens should be reported to the RSCPA, Cats Protection or a local sanctuary, but in this instance, officers helped out by calling a vet, who advised that Elsa needed plenty of meals and nurturing.

Pc Adam Westall and his partner, Hollie, agreed to nurse her at home. Since then, following Elsa’s full recovery, the couple have decided to keep her.

“With regular meals during the day and, at times, in the early hours of the morning, Elsa is healthy and bouncing around,” said Pc Westall.

“She has shown us plenty of affection and has since become a part of our family.”
