Changes to the driving test come into force today with new manoeuvres and the possibility of having to use a sat nav.

So, what has changed?

The independent driving part of the test has been changed from ten minutes to 20 minutes. During your independent drive you will be asked to follow traffic signs or directions from a sat nav. If you are asked to follow a sat nav the examiner will set it up for you.

The turn in the road and reverse around a corner manoeuvres will no longer be tested. However, you will be tested on either parallel parking, park in a bay – either driving in and out – and pulling up on the right-hand side of the road.

Previously you would be asked the ‘show me’ and ‘tell me’ questions at the start of the test before moving off. However, the ‘show me’ question will now be while you are driving.
