A woman who was recovered from the water off the coastline of Felixstowe has been named by police.

Emergency services were contacted at around 1.30pm on Sunday with a report that there had been a collision between a yacht and a dredger at sea.

It is understood that there were two people on board the yacht, a man and a woman, together with two dogs.

A man and one of the dogs were recovered alive from the water and searches had been taking place to try to locate the woman.

At around 5pm on Monday the body Bernadine Ingram, 57, from Butley, near Woodbridge, was recovered from the sea in the area where the yacht sank by a dive team from Norfolk Fire Service.

A post mortem examination will be taking place tomorrow. A force spokeswoman said the woman’s death was being treated as unexplained and the coroner had been informed.

A joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is being conducted between Suffolk Police and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
