A key landmark in Felixstowe is going to get some much needed attention over the coming months.

Martello Tower P, on Felixstowe South Seafront is lending its name to a new housing development, Martello Park.

The tower is owned by Suffolk Coastal which has reached an agreement with developers Bloor Homes to have it refurbished.

Robert Whiting, Suffolk Coastal’s cabinet member with responsibility for resources, said: “Martello Tower P is an iconic building which is a key historic feature on the Felixstowe South Seafront. But over the years it has become run down and has fallen into disrepair.

“Our agreement with Bloor Homes now allows us to get the tower repaired and refurbished to make it more attractive to visitors, while also preserving the building for future generations.”

Work is due to start on Monday and is likely to last up to 10 weeks. Lowestoft-based company MS Oakes Ltd has the contract to undertake the work.
