A female car passenger is fighting for life in hospital, while the male driver of the vehicle in which she was travelling remains in police custody this morning.
They arrived to find a car – carrying four people – in a ditch. Emergency services reported the scene as on Low Road, but it is thought to have happened just outside the village on Hasketon Road.
Two passengers – one male and one female – were injured in the collision and taken to Ipswich Hospital.
Another female passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Ipswich Hospital but then transferred to the major trauma centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge.
Two of the casualties had been trapped in the wreckage but were cut free by firefighters from Woodbridge, Ipswich East and Princes Street stations.
A volunteer critical care paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service charity was also mobilised.
The male driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre, where he remains in custody this morning.
Speaking at 11am this morning, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said there is no update regarding the female passenger, who remains “fighter for her life” in hospital.
