The world’s most famous locomotive - The Flying Scotsman - is steaming through Suffolk this morning.

The iconic engine is pulling a train from Norwich, speeding through the East Suffolk Junction and Westerfield Stations before heading back to the city.

It is set to embark at around 8am today and is due to return to Norwich soon after 10.30am.

Although exact times the train will be passing through Suffolk have not been published, it is expected to travel through the Ipswich area between 9am and 9.30am.

Although it is unlikely you will be able to spot it at Ipswich Station, it should be visible from Gippeswyck Park in the town.

But for the best chance to catch a glimpse, the train will be rolling by Needham Lakes in Needham Market at full steam - running at its top speed of 60mph.

The train is set to pass the lakes on a nearby embankment, offering the public a great view of the locomotive.

However, the British Transport Police have warned the public not to put themselves in harms way to see the train, with extra patrols put on to make sure the tracks stay clear.

They say anyone caught trespassing on the rails is likely to end up in court.

This is the last weekend the train will be in use this year before it undergoes winter maintenance.
