A Suffolk town council has become the first authority of its kind in the county to receive a national award recognising its work to go “above and beyond” its duties in governance.

Framlingham Town Council received the “Quality” Local Council Award at its Old Court House offices today.

Presented by Philip Hayes, chairman of the Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC), the award is only the third achieved in the county and the first for a town council.

Council chairman James Tanner said: “It’s taken a great deal of time and focus from councillors, the town clerk and admin team to ensure our business practices are the best they can be to achieve this award.”

SALC said it recognises the council’s good practice in governance, engagement and improvement.

“Framlingham Town Council goes above and beyond their legal obligations, leading its community and continuously seeking opportunities to improve and develop even further,” it added.
