A crowdfunding page has been set up to support the family of Ron Ramsey, who died after being hit by car in St Osyth earlier this month.

Mr Ramsey was walking his dog, Bobby, along Clacton Road on May 11 when he was struck by a Volkswagen estate car which crashed into The Hoy pub.

The pensioner died at the scene and a 36-year-old woman from the Clacton area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A JustGiving page aiming to raise £1,000 has been started and £450 has already been donated on the web page.

A message on the page says: “We as a community would like to show our support and love to the family of Ron Ramsey who lost his life on May 11 in a tragic accident here in St Osyth village by raising money to help them at this dreadful time.

“He was a neighbour, a friend, and a regular amongst the local dog walking crowd with his beautiful dog Bobby.

“He always had a smile and a cheery word for everyone. His loss has affected us all.

“We hold his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Mr Ramsey’s funeral is being held on June 1 at midday and a St Osyth florist has also posted arrangements for a tribute walk on Facebook.

Donna’s Florist posted: “In respect of Ron and his family we are walking from his house to the church.

“We would like as many people and their dogs to be on route and at 11.50am outside The Hoy pub we are going to have a two minute silence out of respect.

“Then on to the church for 12pm. Bobby will also be walking with us.”
