With a record-breaking number of women MPs elected, and Labour gaining more seats than thought possible, this General Election has been one to remember.

In our region, the biggest shock came from Ipswich, where Conservative Cabinet Minister Ben Gummer was beaten by Labour’s Sandy Martin with a slight majority of 831.

The Tories held on to their seats in every other constituency in Suffolk and north Essex.

Theresa May is now set to head a Conservative government propped up by the Democratic Unionists in Northern Ireland as no one party won an overall majority.

It was a great result for Jeremy Corbyn as Labour gained a total of 30 MPs, with Emma Dent Coad seizing Kesington from the Tories by a hair’s breadth after a third recount tonight.

The Conservatives lost a total of 13 seats, while UKIP was completely wiped out with no representative left in Parliament.
