A sculptor in a north Suffolk village has finished his most difficult piece of work – King Kong.
The giant ape, created by the owner of Brampton Willows, Robert Yates, is made of willow and bronze.
Earlier this year, Mr Yates, of Brampton, near Halewsorth, created a 4m diameter willow propeller. King Kong is about 3m long, 2.5m tall, 2.3m wide and weighs about 300kg.
The willow is woven around a steel frame with a bronze face sculpted by Mr Yates’ wife, Susie, and will be placed in a property in the Seychelles designed by StudioRHE.
Mr Yates said: “I thought the propeller was hard enough, but this was something else!
“Being made in one piece, the sheer scale of it made it very difficult and without the gantry and hoist I had commissioned for this project, it would have been nigh on impossible.”
