A 22-year-old Ipswich man has been jailed for 28 days after committing his second drug-driving offence in two months on April Fools’ Day.

Neven Kovac pleaded guilty when he appeared at the magistrates’ court in Ipswich to two offences relating to drug-driving.

Kovac had derivatives of cocaine and cannabis in his blood when his Ford Fiesta was stopped in McDonald’s car park in Bury Road, Ipswich, on April 1 at 7.20pm.

A blood test showed he was nearly seven times the legal limit for a derivative of cocaine and just over the legal limit for cannabis. The court heard that on April 12 Kovac had been disqualified from driving for a similar offence on February 21.

Kovac was on bail at the time of his latest offence.

In addition to his jail term Kovac, who listened to proceedings via a Norwich prison video link, was disqualified from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay £115 to the victims’ fund.
