A woman who was seriously injured in a single vehicle road traffic collision on Tuesday has died in hospital.

The 34-year-old, who was a passenger in the car, died yesterday.

The crash happened in Little Horkesley when a silver BMW 325 convertible travelling along Vinesse Road struck a tree stump at 5pm on Tuesday. The car ended up in a ditch.

The woman, who was from the Colchester area, was taken to Colchester General Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries.

The driver, a 39-year-old man, also from the Colchester area, was taken to the same hospital after sustaining a variety of minor injuries.

He was arrested there on suspicion of driving dangerously and questioned by road policing officers at Colchester police station.

He is currently on police bail and is due to report back to officers on Monday, July 21.

A section of the road was closed for approximately five hours while forensic collision investigators attempted to identify the cause of the crash.
