A man who was freed from his van by firefighters following a crash in Suffolk has died in hospital.

The crash happened around 1.50pm yesterday on the A140 just north of Little Stonham and involved a white Ford Escort van, a black Audi Q5 and a blue Renault Clio.

Firefighters got the male van driver – aged in his 50s – out of his vehicle and he was rushed to Ipswich Hospital with serious injuries.

However, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary confirmed he later died.

The driver and a passenger in the Audi were treated for minor injuries, and the driver of the Renault was uninjured.

The A140 was closed in both directions for several hours after the crash for police officers to investigate what caused it.

The fire brigade dispatched five vehicles to the scene, including crews from Debenham, Needham Market, Stowmarket and Ipswich Princes Street.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD number 213 of April 15.
