Police are appealing for information after a man grabbed a 19-year-old woman from behind and tried to sexually assault her in Colchester yesterday.

The victim was walking along a path in a wooded area behind Montgomery Junior School near St Michaels Estate off Silver Birch Close at around 4.20pm when she was attacked.

According to police, a man grabbed her from behind, forced her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her.

She screamed and managed to kick the man and he ran off towards the St Michael’s Estate.

He is described as black, around 5ft 5ins tall, around 19-years-old and was wearing a dark blue hooded top and jeans.

A police spokesman said the victim was not hurt during the attack and is being supported by specialist officers.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Chris McGlade said: “This was a frightening attack and we are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about it.

“We want to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or anyone who recognises the description of the man.

“Whilst we believe this was an isolated incident I would urge the public to be vigilant, ensure they are not walking alone and let friends and family know of their whereabouts while in this area.”
