Post Office retail boss, Kevin Gilliland OBE, opened a relocated branch – with longer hours – in Sible Hedingham, Essex.

New postmaster Kandasamy Nirmalan took on the branch at his Londis convenience store, in Swan Street, where former postmistress Krishna Hirani will continue to work.

Services are now provided during the shop’s opening hours – from 6am-11pm Monday to Saturday, and from 6am-10pm on Sundays.

Mr Nirmalan, involved in retail for 25 years, said: “The village is delighted that it has retained a post office, in a central location with much longer opening hours.

“Many of the post office customers were already customers of my convenience store, so we were keen to provide the post office service for the village.”

Mr Gilliland said: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme – the largest in the history of the Post Office – and will secure services for the future.”
