A Suffolk football club is encouraging more girls to take up the beautiful game.

Last year Capel Plough FC, based just south of Ipswich, did not have a female team but after a push for more girls to join they could potentially have four girls’ teams playing next season.

At the weekend the club ran a free taster session for girls and boys with scores of children turning up for a kick-about with the club’s qualified coaches.

Adrian Goodwin, the club’s new head of youth football, thanked the dedication of parents and coaches and praised the club’s committee for their hard work.

He said: “It’s all about girls and boys playing and enjoying football.

“If there is a success on the pitch then that is a welcome bonus.

“I’ve noticed that the girls in my team have formed an amazing friendship and their confidence continues to grow.

“I am so proud of the club for what it is doing for boys’ and girls’ football.”
