Officers from the RSPCA and Redwings horse charity were called to two horses believed to be injured in West Meadows, Ipswich on Monday.

Members of the public walking on the nearby footpath reported seeing a foal which appeared to have collapsed and a horse with barbed wire tangled in its tail and back leg.

A joint statement from RSPCA and Redwings, said: “An RSPCA inspector attended as a matter of urgency and found the owner had removed the barbed wire, which was tangled in one horse’s tail. The foal, which was feared to be collapsed, was up and about, and did not present any cause for concern.

“We are aware of the ongoing concerns about horses on this site and appreciate members of the public calling us. We would also like to assure members of the public that welfare reports are investigated, as this recent report demonstrates.”

A Suffolk police spokeswoman added that the force was working alongside Redwings, RSPCA, Suffolk County Council and landowners to monitor the the horses after 10 were seized in January on welfare grounds.
