A new Chief Fire Officer is being recruited to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) – on a £140,000 per year salary.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, has begun the search to replace Adam Eckley, who announced his intention to retire earlier in the year.

The role, which also acts as chief executive of the fire brigade, does not necessarily have to be held by someone with previous firefighting experience.

Mr Hirst said: “ECFRS is one of the largest in the country providing services for a population of 1.7 million people and leading a service with 1,500 staff and officers.

“This is an important leadership role and we expect it to attract significant interest, both from other fire and rescue services across the country and also from highly experienced leaders from wider organisations.

“ECFRS has changed significantly over the last few years. We need a talented and committed leader to help the service continue to transform its culture and deliver outcomes that will make a real difference for the people of Essex.”

The closing date for applications is Monday, November 13.
