Developers FW Properties yesterday showed off the town’s completed Whisstocks scheme, which includes 26 new homes as well as a new home for Woodbridge Museum and a replica of the Sutton Hoo burial ship.

Julian Wells, co-founder and director of FW Properties, said: “We’re over the moon with the way that the Whisstocks Development has turned out.

“Our aim was always to capture the essence of the site’s history; respecting its industrial past and role in the economy of the area.

“There is a real feeling of authenticity about the development due to the design and materials we’ve selected, and the finished result looks even better than we had imagined it would.

“The overall scheme provides an interesting ensemble of different buildings with varying architectural styles, which we believe fully reflects the commercial heritage of the site. The public space will provide improved access to this stunning part of Woodbridge and it’s great to see people already enjoying it.”

The regeneration of Whisstocks boatyard and Nunn’s Mill factory, close to the renowned Tide Mill and within the River Deben Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has created 15 apartments at Deben Wharf, the majority already sold, and 11 more homes, town houses and apartments, at Nunn’s Mill.

Both parts of the development also provide much-needed commercial space for the town. The Chandlery building on the river front, will house a riverside bar, restaurant and terrace over two floors, all with stunning views across the River Deben.

The scheme also includes two community buildings and a new public open space to be handed over to Woodbridge Town Council next week.

The Longshed will house a recreation of the Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon burial ship and the Woodbridge Museum will be housed in the Heritage Building.

Another important element of the scheme is a new, state-of-the-art floodgate, which will provide enhanced protection for Woodbridge.

A slipway providing access into the river from the site has also been renovated and improved.
