Pupils from an Ipswich sixth form are set to take to the stage in a production of an iconic musical.

Students from Suffolk One sixth form will be performing Rodger and Hammerstein’s The King and I.

18-year-old Ryan Lenny hopes to follow in the footsteps of Hollywood star Yul Brynner who took on the role of King Mongkut.

He said, “It’s weird walking into scenes and everyone starts dropping to their feet and latching onto everything I say. I guess you can see why people get enticed by that kind of power. Overall though, rehearsals are going well and we have a fantastic cast.”

Director and teacher of performing arts, Michael Platt, added, “I’m sure people will be able to see a visual spectacle when the curtain opens for the opening night in a couple of weeks.”

The production runs from January 30 - February 2. Tickets can be bought online.
