The UK’s hottest weather of the year so far was recorded in Suffolk yesterday - with even higher temperatures predicted for this afternoon.

The 23.9C recorded at Santon Downham is officially the UK’s highest temperature all year. But with the temperatures “still climbing rapidly”, Weatherquest forecaster Steve Western said areas of the country, including Suffolk could reach 25C today.

“There’s no clouds to speak of and so temperatures are just going to keep climbing,” he said.

The warm sunny weather is expected to continue throughout tomorrow but by Tuesday heavy rain and thunder has been forecasted.

“For the rest of the week it’s going to be really quite miserable,” Mr Western added.
