A teenager who died when his car caught fire as a result of a collision with a lorry on the A14 near Needham Market has now been named.

Reece Harnetty, of Basildon, was killed on the Stowmarket-bound carriageway at Creeting St Mary.

The tragedy occurred on the A14 westbound at Creeting St Mary around 7.15pm on January 20.

Both vehicles caught fire and 19-year-old Mr Harnetty, believed to be the driver of the car, died at the scene.

The road was closed, and diversions were put in place, while a police investigation got under way.

Suffolk Constabulary reopened the carriageway at 3am the following day.

The collision happened near the A140 Beacon Hill junction with the A140.

Four Suffolk fire crews, two from Princes Street and one each from Ipswich East and Stowmarket, were sent to the scene.

Mr Harnetty’s inquest will be opened in Ipswich on Monday at The Coroners’ Court, Beacon House, Whitehouse Road in Ipswich.
