A magician-turned-entertainer from Stowmarket due to appear on Britain’s Got Talent tonight has said 2016 winner Richard Jones inspired him to audition for the show.
Tequila-drinking Matt Edwards will join a troupe of terrifying clown-faced dancers and a man dressed as a dog on tonight’s episode as he attempts to impress the judges with his unusual routine.
Full of wacky facial expressions, dancing and impressions, the 34-year-old’s performance is compared to Tommy Cooper by Amanda Holden.
She makes the remarks after Matt performs an intriguing salt-related trick to the tune of The Champs’ track Tequila.
Speaking ahead of the show, being broadcast on ITV at 8pm, Matt said: “It’s been an absolutely incredible experience.
“I decided to audition after I was working on a pantomime, which I do every year, and Richard Jones – last year’s winner – was working on it with me.
“He encouraged me to sign up and get involved – and because I knew how amazingly he had done and how much it boosted his career I went up to Manchester to audition.
“I can’t wait to see the show tonight, it will be strange watching myself on TV but it’s so exciting.
Matt’s father Alan said he was very proud of his son – and cannot wait to tune in tonight.
“My eyes will be glued to the TV,” he added.
The 34-year-old, who grew up in Needham Market, started his career in Suffolk more than 20 years ago.
When he was 16 he jetted off to Spain with a friend who was involved in magic shows to get a taster of what was to come before returning to Britain to perform a few months later.
