A woman has died after collapsing at a McDonald’s restaurant, despite staff battling to save her.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, collapsed at around 9.30pm at the fast food restaurant on London Road, in Thetford, on Monday.

Andy Day, an operations manager for McDonalds, said she had finished eating a meal with her son and daughter-in-law when she collapsed outside the restaurant.

Restaurant staff rushed to resuscitate the woman, with one staff member administering CPR.

Mr Day said: “We raised the alarm straight away and the shift manager started CPR and an ambulance was called. She did start breathing again at one point but unfortunately passed away.”

The restaurant closed following the incident but reopened yesterday.

Staff had been “shaken” by the woman’s death, said Mr Day, and the member of staff who gave first aid had been given time off before returning to work.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said two ambulances were called to the scene but were stood down.
