Over-running engineering work caused delays for rail commuters from Essex to London this morning.
Network Rail and train operator Greater Anglia apologised after overnight engineering work between Witham and Colchester was not completed on time.
Services running through Witham and Kelvedon towards London Liverpool Street were delayed by up to 25 minutes this morning until around 8.40am.
Earlier, a Greater Anglia spokesman said: “Due to engineering work not being finished on time between Witham and Colchester the line towards London is blocked.
“Because of the location of the problem, Network Rail engineers have been allowed to transfer trains onto the Norwich bound line. However, delays are being experienced in carrying out this manoeuvre.
“Network Rail engineers are working to bring line back to normal as quickly as possible.
“Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.”
Greater Anglia said on Twitter at 8.42am this morning: “Disruption caused by earlier over-running engineering works between Colchester and Witham has now ended.”
