An unknown liquid was thrown at a teenager by a car passenger in Braintree, police have said.

The liquid stung the 17-year-old’s eyes in Broad Road, near Braintree Hockey Club, shortly after 5pm on Thursday, March 30.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A red mini slowed down besides the victim and a man seated in the passenger side threw an object at him, causing bruising and swelling to the side of his face. The car then drove away.

“The item thrown at the victim is believed to have contained an unknown liquid which stung the victim’s eye.

“The car’s bonnet was decorated with two white stripes and was possibly a 2015 model.

“The suspect is described as a white man in his twenties with a dark brown beard.

“Anyone who witnessed the assault or has information which could help the investigation is asked to contact Pc Jack Mabbett at Braintree Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
