Here are the major roadworks taking place across the East of England region this coming week.

The following works are taking place between Monday September 11 to Sunday September 17

A14 Bury St Edmunds junction improvements

Improvement works are being carried out on the A14 junction 45 Rookery Crossroads/Rougham.

Works include construction of new eastbound slip roads, which are being funded by Suffolk County Council as part of the Bury St Edmunds Eastern Relief Road scheme.

There is a 24 hour 40mph speed limit in place through the works for safety in the eastbound direction only.

B1113 Stowmarket - Overnight closure

Between Stowmarket and Needham Market the B113 is closed in both direction until September 12 between 7pm and 5am. Resurfacing works are taking place. The road is closed in both directions from Muntons to Roots and Shoots.

M1 southbound junctions 10 to 6: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the M1 verges starts on Monday 11 September on the M1 southbound between junctions 10 and 6. Hard shoulder closures will be in place past the section being worked on during the daytime off peak period, weather permitting.

M11 junctions 6 (M25) to 7 Harlow, resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be subject to lane closures overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Thursday 14 September for two nights.

M11 junctions 7 (Harlow) to 8 (A120 – Stansted Airport), Essex, resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 11 September for three nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A414, A1184 and A120.

M11 junction 8 Birchanger, Essex: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The roundabout will be subject to lane closures overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 13 September.

M40 junctions 1 to 1a, Denham: maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out lighting maintenance and replacing safety barriers will continue between junctions 1 and 1a of the M40 until mid-October. A temporary 50mph speed limit will be in place 24/7 during the works.

M40 junctions 6 to 8: hard shoulder safety barrier

Works are being undertaken on the M40 between junctions 6 and 8 to update the existing hard shoulder safety barrier. These works will continue until the end of October. The works will be undertaken using overnight lane one closures.

A1 Great North Road, A6118 to RAF Wittering north and southbound: signage replacement

Work to remove and replace road signage on A1. A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles travelling north will diverted onto the A47 eastbound up to Duddington roundabout and then on to the A43 Stamford road northbound before joining the A1. Vehicles travelling southbound will follow the diversion in reverse. Work will take place between 8pm and 6am. A full northbound carriageway closure will be in place from Tuesday 12 September for three nights. A southbound lane closure will be in place from Monday 11 September for up to two nights, with southbound full carriageway closure from Wednesday for up to three nights

A11 Norfolk: vegetation clearance

Overnight work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A11 verges starts on Monday 11 September between junction 37 of the A14 and along the A11 for eight weeks. Mobile lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

A11 Red Lodge to Newmarket Southbound: resurfacing

Overnight works to improve journeys by resurfacing lanes one and two between Red Lodge heading southbound towards Newmarket. Bridge joints are also being replaced. Works are due to completed by the end of the month.

Full road closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday.

The diversion route will be in place while the night time works are underway. The A11 will be closed between Barton Mills Fiveways roundabout and Red Lodge on the A11 southbound. The diversion route will be fully signed and will direct traffic along the A11 northbound towards Barton Mills, the A1101 towards Fordham All Saints, followed by the A14.

A12 junctions 24 (Kelvedon north) to 23 (Kelvedon south), Essex: bridge repair

Work to maintain safety by repairing the Ewell Bridge continues this week. The damaged pedestrian bridge over the A12 remains closed 24/7 while repair work continues. Pedestrians will be diverted to use the alternative route.

A12 northbound exit slip road junction 32b (Capel St Mary), Suffolk: dazzle fence renewal

Works will start on Sunday 10 September for five nights (8pm to 6am) to replace anti-dazzle fencing off the A12 slip road. The northbound A12 off slip will be closed while work takes place, with a signed diversion directing traffic to exit at junction 32b Bentley Interchange, travel south adjacent to the A12 towards junction 32a via the link road to the roundabout, turn right under the A12 onto The Street, then onto London Road where the diversion will end and drivers can continue their onward journey. This work is set to be complete by 6am on Saturday 16 September, weather permitting.

A120 Marks Farm Roundabout, Braintree to West Street, Coggeshall, Essex: resurfacing, drainage and lighting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing, drainage and lighting maintenance continues this week. The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 11 September for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A12, A130, A131 and A120, and vice versa.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained.

A120 B1024 Coggeshall to Marks Tey (A12 junction 25), Essex: resurfacing, drainage and lighting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing, drainage and lighting maintenance continues this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 11 September for five nights.

A120 Great Bromley, Essex: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. One lane westbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday 14 September.

A120 Stansted to Priory Wood Roundabout, Essex: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. One lane westbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 15 September.

A120 Pellens Corner: surveys and investigations

Highways England is planning an improvement scheme along the A120 at the junctions with Harwich Road, Park Road and Pellens Corner designed to improve the safety for local residents and road users.

To prepare for construction, engineering ground investigation and ecological works have occurred and further investigative works are required. Works include: trenching, trial pits and will require the removal of trees to allow for suitable access to carry out the work.

They are hoping to begin construction in late September and will notify you again before these construction works start.

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, major improvements

Construction work on the new A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is now well underway. We are currently carrying out a variety of tasks for which we need to close lanes or carriageway on the A1, A14 and some local roads, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures.

There will be several full closures this week on the following dates:

Monday 11 September to Friday 15 September (five nights)

A1 northbound between Brampton Hut and Alconbury

A signed diversion will be in place via the A14 east and then A14 link road north to re-join the A1.

A14 eastbound between junction 26 (St Ives) and junction 29 (Bar Hill)

A signed diversion will be in place via the A428, A1198 to re-join the A14.

Monday, September 11, to Wednesday September 13, (three nights)

A1 southbound between Alconbury and Buckden; A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles will be diverted east along the A14, south on the A1198 and then west on the A428 to re-join the A1.

Thursday September 14 to Friday 15 September (two nights)

A1 southbound between Alconbury and Brampton Hut

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles will be diverted south along the A14 spur to junction 23, right along the A14 to re-join the A1 southbound at junction 13.

Friday 15 September to Monday 18 September, 8pm to 5am, (three nights)

Buckden Road at its junction with Brampton Road and the A1 northbound

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles travelling from Brampton Road to the A1 will be diverted onto the A1 southbound to Buckden roundabout and then return north on A1. Vehicles travelling north on A1 will be diverted to Brampton Hut interchange then return south on the A1.

A1198 will be closed just after the southbound entrance into the Woodgreen Animal Shelter

A signed diversion will be in place. Southbound vehicles will be diverted using the A14 junction 24 (Godmanchester), east on the A14 to junction 32 (Histon), south on the A14 to join the A428 west to re-join the A1198. Northbound vehicles will not be able to get to Woodgreen Animal Shelter, so should follow the diversion in reverse.

Single lane closures:

Monday 11 September to Friday 15 September (5 nights)

A14 eastbound between junction 24 (Godmanchester) and junction 26 (St Ives)

Lane two closed.

A1 northbound between Brampton and Brampton Hut

Lane 2 closed.

A1 southbound between junction 15 (Sawtry) and junction 14 (Alconbury)

Lanes two, three and four closed.

Wednesday 13 September (one night)

A14 westbound between junction 31 (Girton) and junction 30 (Dry Drayton)

Lanes 2 and 3 closed.

A14 junction 32

Eastbound exit slip road closed

Thursday 14 September to Friday 15 September (two nights)

A428 westbound, between A14 junction 32 and Madingly. Lane one closed

Largescale works

A14 Orwell Bridge, Suffolk: principal inspection

Work to maintain safety by thoroughly inspecting all surfaces of the Orwell Bridge started on 14 August and continues until mid-October. The majority of this work will take place under the bridge, but this will effect on traffic flows over the bridge towards the end of the works as the bridge deck is inspected, completing gulley clearance and resurfacing at the same time.

Orwell Bridge will be closed in both directions overnight between the hours of 9pm and 6am for 15 nights (Monday to Friday nights only, weather permitting) for three weeks starting next Monday 18 September.

The road closure points will be at junctions 55 (Copdock) and 58 (Seven Hills) with eastbound through traffic diverted via London Road, Yarmouth Road and Colchester Road around the north of Ipswich, onto Heath Road and Colchester Road before re-joining the A14 at Seven Hills. The westbound diversion will follow the above in reverse.

A47 Honingham to Easton traffic signal works

There will be overnight temporary traffic signals in place from Monday 11 September between 8pn to 6am for up to five nights. The temporary traffic signals in place while the permanent signals are being worked on.

A47 junctions 18 to J17 westbound link (Peterborough) – Safety Improvements (signage, roadmarkings & surfacing)

The J18 to J17 Westbound link road will be closed for three nights 8pm to 6am from Wednesday 13 Septmber for signage, road markings and surfacing works

A47 Castor to Kings Lynn: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A47 verges starts overnight this week on the A47 above for five weeks. Single lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 11 September for up to five weeks overnight, weather permitting.

A47 junction 19, Fulbridge footbridge: waterproofing and repair works

Work to waterproof and repair Fulbridge footbridge on A47. The footbridge will be closed for the duration of the works. A signed pedestrian diversion will be in place routing users through the subway via Itter Cresecent/Marlowe Grove and Chaucer Road for up to four weeks.
