A fearless fundraiser ushered in her year of charity challenges by leaping into the icy depths of a Suffolk river.

Mandy Hearle, who launched Mission Possible 2014 in the EADT on New Year’s Day, threw herself into the Deben at Woodbridge for the first of 365 dares to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF or Doctors Without Borders).

The campaign will celebrate the memory of Woodbridge teenager and daughter of Mandy’s friends Marcia and Steve, Poppy Harvey, who died in June 2010 when she suffered a fatal allergic reaction to cake containing traces of peanut.

In honour of her favourite colour, the first challenge had a pink theme, with a brightly painted wooden plank donated by building merchants Jewson. We will be checking in with Mandy during the year.
