Brandon Williams and Liam Gibbs are players to cross the Ipswich Town/Norwich City divide in recent times. Ross Halls looks at the other players to have played for both.
BRANDON WILLAMS
Current Town loanee had his first loan spell away from Manchester United at Norwich where he made 29 appearances as the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League during the 2021/22 season.
Williams' stint at Carrow Road ended unhappily though when he was abused by a group of Canaries supporters following his final game, a 4-0 home defeat by West Ham - which will give him extra motivation for this game.
LIAM GIBBS
Current Norwich midfielder Gibbs joined the Blues’ academy at the age of eight, went on to make his Town debut at the age of 16 and made a further three appearances during his time at Portman Road.
Gibbs rejected a new deal in the summer of 2021 and crossed the border to join the Canaries where he has since made 50 appearances, and could feature against the Blues.
DAVID WRIGHT
The defender also had a brief loan spell at Norwich from Wigan Athletic in 2005, before he went on to sign for the Blues on a permanent deal in January 2007.
Wright played over 100 games for Town during his three-year spell and is now back at the club working alongside John McGreal with the U21s side.
ALLENBY DRIVER
The forward spent two years at the Canaries and become one of the earliest players to cross the divide when he joined Town from Norwich for a fee of £3,000 in January 1950.
Driver went on to score 26 goals in 92 games in all competitions during his two-year-spell at Town.
JOHN DEEHAN AND TREVOR PUTNEY
The duo was part of an exchange deal which saw Putney move to join Norwich and then Deehan signed for Town in June 1986.
Putney began his career at Ipswich, where made over 100 appearances for the club, while Deehan spent five years at Norwich, before he played 50 plus games for the Blues.
JOHNNY MILLER
Born in Ipswich, he came through the club’s youth system making more than 50 appearances between 1969 to 1974, before he made the switch to Norwich for a fee of £47,000 in October 1974.
Miller returned to Portman Road less than two months later and scored twice for the Canaries to knock the Blues out of the League Cup before helping them win promotion to the top flight.
ALAN LEE
The Irishman scored 34 goals in 110 games during his first spell at the club and joined Crystal Palace in the summer of 2008, before he made a controversial loan move to Norwich in 2009.
Lee spent three months on loan at Carrow Road, where he scored two goals in seven appearances and featured against the Blues in the 3-1 win at Portman Road.
He has since apologised to Town fans for his spell with the Canaries, insisting his heart has always been in Suffolk when he returned to the Blues as a player in 2013.
LOUIE DONOWA
Born in Ipswich but started his career at Norwich City where he was a member of the youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1983 and the side that won the League Cup in 1985.
Donowa departed the Canaries in 1986 to have spells in Spain and Holland, before he moved to Town in the summer of 1989 and made 29 appearances, scoring two goals during his one season at Portman Road.
ANDY MARSHALL
The goalkeeper who crossed the divide having started his career at Carrow Road, where he made over 100 appearances and was between the sticks when Town beat Norwich 5-0 at Portman Road in February 1998.
Marshall then joined the Blues on a free transfer but suffered relegation with in his first season and went on to make 65 appearances for Town.
CLIVE BAKER
Another keeper to have started his career at Norwich but made just 14 appearances during his spell at Carrow Road, before moving on to Barnsley and Coventry City.
Baker finished his career at Town, joining the club in the summer of 1992 and made more than 50 appearances for the Blues, before he retired at the end of the 1994/95 season.
CLIVE WOODS
Born in Norwich but he started his career at Town, where he progressed through the youth ranks, making over 300 appearances and helped the Blues win the FA Cup in 1978.
Woods left Town to join the Canaries in March 1980, and retired from professional football after two years at Carrow Road. He was inducted into the Town hall of fame in 2014.
MATTHEW BATES
The defender had a brief loan spell at both clubs from Middlesbrough, with his first coming at Town in 2006, where he made just two appearances which included a debut win in the 3-1 victory over Norwich at Portman Road.
Bates suffered an ACL injury in his second game for Town, before he went on to make three appearances on loan at Carrow Road from Boro in 2008.
JORDAN RHODES
The forward came through the youth ranks at Portman Road, but made just 10 sub appearances, scoring one goal, before he was sold to Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2009.
Rhodes joined Norwich on a season-long loan from Sheffield Wednesday and went on to help them win the Championship title during the 2018/19 season.
KEITH BERTSCHIN
The forward began his career at Town where he scored in his first two games for the Blues against Arsenal and West Ham.
But he made just 33 appearances, scoring eight goals, before he left the club to join Birmingham in the summer of 1977.
Bertschin made over 100 appearances for the Midlands club before he joined Norwich in August 1981 and played more than 100 times for the Canaries during his three-year-spell.
KEVIN LISBIE
The forward was another player to have a brief loan spell with the Canaries from Charlton Athletic in 2005 and then signed for Colchester United, where the Blues bought him from in July 2008.
Lisbie spent three years at Portman Road, scoring seven goals in 45 games for Town.
PETER MORRIS
The midfielder joined Town from Mansfield Town in March 1968 and made over 250 appearances for the Blues between 1968 to 1974.
Morris then signed for Norwich for a fee of £60,000 from Town and went on to make over 50 appearances for them during his two-year-spell at Carrow Road.
TOM ADEYEMI
The midfielder started his career with the Canaries, where he progressed through the youth ranks and made 17 appearances during his time at Carrow Road.
Adeyemi joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 but made just five appearances for Town due to injuries and retired from football after his spell at the club.
DAVID HEALY
The Northern Irishman spent time on loan at Norwich from Preston in 2003, before going on to have spells at Leeds, Fulham and Sunderland.
Healy then signed for the Blues on loan from the Black Cats in 2010, scoring one goal in 12 games.
BOBBY BELL
The defender came through the youth ranks at Town, where he made 37 appearances between 1968 to 1971.
Bell had a brief loan spell at Norwich from Crystal Palace in 1972.
