Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna on Sam Morsy's Player of the Year win

The captain has started in 39 of 43 league games, only ever missing out through suspension. He’s registered three goals and five assists in that time, showing how comfortable he’s been in adapting to life back in the Championship.

His role within the dressing room doesn’t go unnoticed either, particularly in a season where his side are challenging at the top of the division. He’s a clear reflection of his manager with a calm and measured approach, allowing him to stand out in the middle of the park.

“I think he’s a deserved winner,” McKenna said.

“There’s been so many of the boys who’ve stepped up very well, but I think he’s shown great leadership on the pitch and at the training ground.

“On top of that, the quality of his performances, the way he’s dictating games on and off the ball, the details in his game now that weren’t there two years ago - he’s worked ever so hard on that.

“Of course, he’s had the fitness to be available for so many games. He’s another one that’s done the five 90 minutes back-to-back.

“Testament to him, and well deserved.”

McKenna himself was named as the Irene Davey Award winner, while Jeremy Sarmiento won the ‘Unforgettable Moment’ award for his goal against Southampton and Wes Burns took the ‘Portman Road Moment’ award for his trivela against Coventry City.

Sophie Peskett was chosen as the Women’s Player of the Year and Finley Barbrook lifted the Academy Player of the Year award, with both shining for their respective sides this season.
