Teenager Alex Oxley recorded his first Minor Counties half century before Suffolk saw three late wickets fall in a rain-affected day one of their Unicorns Championship Eastern Division match at Norfolk today.

Suffolk, who started the day top of the table, won the toss and elected to bat. Jaik Mickleburgh scored 28 off 37 balls in the opening hour before he was caught off the bowling of Adam Todd with the score 69-1 in the 15th over.

That’s when 16-year-old Oxley entered the fray and a fruitful partnership with opener Martyn Cull began. Then the rain came with the score 131-1 (31 overs).

Norfolk finally got a breakthrough when Cull fell five short of his century, the score 194-2 after 53 overs. Michael Comber was bowled for 10 (209-3), then Oxley received a round of applause for his useful contribution of 53 off 132 balls after being bowled lbw (211-4).

Adam Mansfield went for as two Suffolk closed 217-5 (67 overs).
