Lewis Kinsella insists that there is “no need to panic,” despite Colchester United’s winless start to the season.

The U’s have yet to taste victory, in four league and cup starts, but Kinsella is not dwelling on that poor first three weeks of the campaign.

Instead, the former Aston Villa trainee believes that the U’s will click into gear, for tomorrow’s visit of Forest Green Rovers.

“I feel that we are a very young side, but that we have got so much quality in there,” explained Kinsella.

“It’s just a case of getting it right, and I feel that we will get it right this weekend. We are the ones at home, and we are the ones looking for three points, so we will be mainly worrying about ourselves, not Forest Green.

“It will end up being all right, its just a matter of time.

“We don’t start looking at the table yet. We won’t be judging ourselves until we are about 10 or 15 games in. That’s when you get a real justification about where teams are.

“The three league results previously have not really had a negative effect on us. Portsmouth and Plymouth both had poor starts to last season, and yet both got promoted.

“So we are not worried, and there is certainly no need to panic.

“You only have to look at Accrington last season. They were bottom of the league up until Christmas, but by the end of the season they went on a long (15-game) unbeaten run and only just missed out on the play-offs.

“That was the same as us. We want on a big run and only missed out by one point,” added Kinsella.

On a personal note, Kinsella wants to play catch-up this season, having had his first campaign with the U’s cruelly truncated by an ankle injury. The 22-year-old played 14 games, before suffering a serious knee injury against Newport, in early October, 2016.

He required surgery, and although he did get back into the first-team squad during the final third of the season, he only made one further appearance.

Kinsella was on the bench for the first three matches of this term, unleashed as a second-half substitute at Accrington Stanley.

But the left wing-back finally made his first start, in the 3-0 defeat at Luton last weekend, due to loanee Kyel Reid’s ankle injury.

“I worked really hard during the off-season, and hopefully it is now paying off,” continued Kinsella.
