Steve Piotrowski and John Wiseman beat Dave Simpkin and Martin Mansfield on count back with 44 points.

On the same score were Jed Seeley and Newton Green club captain Gareth Evans. They missed out on runners-up spot on their back nine.

The only professional in the field was Sam Forgan (Stowmarket) who had a round of two over par 72.

It was mild day with greens moderately paced but true. Being a nine-hole course the field was restricted.

The next Suffolk Winter Alliance meeting will be at Hintlesham on November 29.

- It’s the time of year when some clubs change their captains. Rushmere and Stoke by Nayland have fresh faces at the helm.

Steve Potts is the new Rushmere captain. He has been a member since 1980. His vice-captain is Garry Channing, a member for 17 years.

Jennifer Frost is the Rushmere ladies’ captain with Lynne Rafferty as vice-captain. Cameron Brown is junior captain.

Stoke by Nayland’s new captains are Alan Line (club captain), John Sandford (vice-captain) and Elaine Davidson (ladies).

Retiring club captain Don Wiggins raised more than £4000 for a Prostate Cancer charity.

Retiring senior captain Norman Davidson raised £5000 for Kingswode Hoe School in Colchester. He is succeeded by John Wheatley with Ian Bickers as vice-captain. Max Toombs is junior captain with Harry English as vice-captain.

Jonathan Loshak stands down after many years as honorary president. Lesley Garnett takes over.

- The November Felixstowe Ferry Winter fourball series was won by Andy Shakespear and Tom Clark with 44 points on count back from Sam Kinane and Roger Toone.

Harry Hills and Paul Waring were third with 43 on a breezy day. As usual there was good support from Essex.

The professional prize was shared between Neil Mitchell (Ipswich Golf Centre) and James Gurry (Basildon) with rounds of 72.

- Lily-May Humphreys of Stoke by Nayland was runner-up in the girls’ section of the Daily Telegraph Vitality junior golf played over the North Course at Quinta do Lago on The Algarve. The winner was England under-18 champion Annabel Fuller (Kingston-on-Thames).

Fourteen-year-old Max Hopkins of Bishop’s Stortford won the boys’ event from Northamptonshire’s Ben Jones.
