Schofield, who starred for Suffolk in the Minor Counties Championship in the 2006 season, will lead his side into action at Copdock on Wednesday (July 5) as part of the club’s Cricket Week.

The T20 match against Copdock & Old Ipswichian’s first team celebrates the official opening of the club’s new pavilion, which will be carried out by legendary commentator Henry Blofeld.

Schofield said: “I’m really looking forward to the game and seeing some old friends from when I had a year playing for Suffolk.

“The standard of cricket was very good, so I’m on the hunt for my strongest available team!”

Already confirmed in the Lashings line-up are ex-West Indies opening batsman Gordon Greenidge, Indian opener Wasim Jaffer and ex-England off-spinner John Emburey.

Devon Malcolm, who also played two seasons for Suffolk, is also included in the line-up of former international cricketers.

Ex-England captain Alastair Cook visited Copdock in April to mark the club’s selection as one of just three ‘showcase’ clubs across the country for this year’s NatWest CricketForce weekend.

More than 100 volunteers took part in the annual volunteering event which saw the pavilion project completed.

Copdock’s Steve Gauke, chairman of the match organising committee, said: “Both on and off the field the club have enjoyed considerable success in recent years.

“This is an opportunity to showcase all that we have achieved and to put on a really great day for all our members, everyone that supported the pavilion project and spectators.”

A total of 300 guests will sit down at 12.30pm for a corporate lunch, sponsored by JamieLeeSmith Catering, which will be followed by an auction of sporting memorabilia.

Blofeld will perform the opening ceremony at 3.30pm, half-an-hour before the match, which is being sponsored by Turners Hyundai, gets under way.

Entry and car parking are both free and spectators are welcome to bring their own seating. A souvenir programme, priced £5, will be on sale.
