Ipswich Life Saving Club members finished their open water season in style, with impressive performances in the Shelia Norman Memorial Suffolk Open Water Pairs competition.
With the pairs of mixed ability, and a mix of Suffolk clubs, including Deben and Bury St Edmunds.
Held at Felixstowe, in great weather, but with rough seas, all competitors didn’t hold back and let the crashing waves dent their performances.
With a variety of gruelling events, all abilities had the opportunity to shine and show the lifesaving skills taken on-board during the summer of training.
Events included board rescues, rope rescues, swim and tows and beach sprints.
Medal results:
1st – Ben Gray (Ipswich) & Grace Boakes (Deben)
2nd – Maddie Long & Isaac Price (both Ipswich)
3rd – Ruby Smith (Ipswich) & Hannah Wainer (Deben)
“It really was a perfect way to finish off the summer,” admitted a delighted Ben Gray who came first with Grace Boakes.
“Getting in the water was a bit hard at times with the waves, but we all really enjoyed the event,” said Maddie Long.
Other Ipswich results:
5th Kristofer Cvetkovs
6th Tegan Jarrett & JJ Mee
7th Polly Price
8th Adam Rust
10th Elsie Price
11th Helen Jarrett
12th Georgie Cooper
Club trainer David Ebbs was delighted with the displays: “It’s great that we keep getting youngsters entering these events,” he said.
“Georgie was great, after being with the club for around a month, while Polly, Maddie, JJ, Helen and Kris may have been feeling the cold, due to being so small, but carried on with big hearts.
“Ruby was Ruby, she just gets on with it and also has the National Finals to look forward to in November.
“Ben and Isaac are nearing the upper age for this, and oozed class. It was good to see.”
