Bartosz Bialkowski’s absence from Ipswich Town’s 1-0 victory over Leeds with a calf problem led to fears the Polish goalkeeper could be set for a departure, following links to Crystal Palace earlier in the January transfer window.

Bialkowski was watching at Portman Road as Bersant Celina crashed home a winner for the Blues against 10-man Leeds, with McCarthy quick to shoot down any conspiracy theories regarding the goalkeeper’s absence.

“We’d murdered them and somebody said ‘some people might think that’s two points dropped’ and I said ‘some people can f**k off’.

Dean Gerken performed well in Bialkowski’s absence, making a good save at the end to deny Leeds substitute Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

Tommy Smith, himself linked with a move to MLS side Colorado Rapids this month, was also at the game while injured players Tom Adeyemi, Adam Webster, Grant Ward and suspended defender Jordan Spence were also in attendance.
