Thurlow Nunn Division One Leiston Reserves 2 Woodbridge Town 6 Woodbridge Town returned to the top of the Thurlow Nunn Division 1 table with a hard fought victory at Victory Road.

Without the unavailable Ray, Churchyard, Greggor and Hammond the Woodpeckers maintained their 100% record in the league, as 16-year-old Josh Leech made his league debut and Jake Conway, also 16 was on the bench.

They took the lead after only two minutes when Ryan Keeble’s cross was deflected in off ex-Woodpecker Harry Knights.

It was 2-0 after 16 minutes when Bowman’s corner was headed goalwards by Kelsey Trotter with Liam Scopes getting the final touch.

Keeble’s swerving effort from 20 yards hit the bar on the stroke of half time, with the score still 2-0 to Woodbridge.

Callum Sinclair’s shot from a wide position went wide after 49 minutes but he made amends after 52 minutes with a superb finish to make it 3-0.

Leiston were awarded a penalty a minute later for a foul inside the area, and Adam Blades stepped up to make it 3-1.

Trotter made it 4-1 with a superb curling effort from the left wing and after 72 minutes Kevin Inglis was shown his second yellow card for the home side, after being perhaps lucky to escape a straight red for an earlier challenge on Taylor Southgate.

Home substitute Louis Bloom made it 4-2 after 74 minutes from 15 yards but after 75 minutes following an excellent move between Keeble and substitute Matt Mackenzie, the latter was brought down inside the area by Lay Fulcher.

And he duly stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to make it 5-2.

Mackenzie’s effort was well saved by the busy Lay Fulcher after 89 minutes but in the last minute substitute Leech’s accurate pass found Keeble and he made no mistake to make it 6-2 on his 23rd birthday.
