Reece Topley took two wickets on his return from a long-term injury lay-off, helping Hampshire to a draw with Yorkshire in the County Championship First Division.

The 23-year-old former Royal Hospital School pupil took Ben Coad’s wicket in the first innings, as the visitors scored 231 all out, in reply to Hampshire’s 455 – Topley scoring 16.

Following-on, Yorkshire dug in and reached 399 for six declared in their second innings, Topley taking the wicket of Tim Bresnan.

Ipswich-born Topley took one for 56 off 15.2 overs in Yorkshire’s first innings, before taking one for 87 off 23 overs in their second.

The game marked Topley’s first in over a year, the bowler breaking his hand on his Hampshire debut last April.

He then sustained a partial stress fracture in his back which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign before, undergoing a shoulder operation in January, after picking up a training injury.
