Braintree Town have completed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Cambridge United.

The 33-year-old made 59 appearances in two years for the U’s but left the Abbey Stadium after failing to agree new terms with Jez George’s side.

The Bishop Auckland-born goalkeeper, who began his career as a youth-team player at Walsall, also played over 100 games for Histon and has been brought in by Iron manager Alan Devonshire to put pressure on first-choice stopper Nathan McDonald.

“Danny has played in the Conference for the last nine or ten years and I felt bringing him in was the right thing to do,” said Devonshire, whose side begin their new league campaign at home to promoted Hyde on Saturday.

Devonshire revealed he is also in talks with another target and a deal could be completed later this week.
