Drinks industry ‘failing to respond’ to growing demand for low alcohol drinks, says Ipswich brewer

The founder of an Ipswich brewery which specialises in making low alcohol beers says the industry is failing to respond to a growing demand for products such as his.
Big Drop Brewing Co is taking part in the Mindful Drinking Festival, organised by Club Soda, which takes place at Spitalfields Market, London, on Saturday, July 28.
“Despite all the evidence showing that there’s a growing need to provide a selection of great tasting lower alcohol drinks, many operators are reluctant to grasp the opportunity that this gives and still don’t stock a range of beers that appeal to such a significant group of society,” said Big Drop founder Rob Fink.
“One in five adults now claims to be tee-total and 18% of UK drinkers say they are doing something to cut down their alcohol consumption so it’s disappointing to see that so many mainstream pubs, bars, restaurants and shops are still to offer a representative range of lower alcohol beers.”
“I’ll be at the Club Soda Mindful Drinking Festival on 28th July” continued Rob “and want to challenge anyone who thinks my 0.5% Big Drop beers don’t have a market in their pub, bar, restaurant or store to come along, taste the beers, chat to me and maybe even ask some of their potential customers who are visiting the event what they think.”
The Spitalfields Market event is expected to attract more than 10,000 people and is designed to meet the growing curiosity for low and no-alcohol drinks and as well as beers, will also profile wines, spirits, sodas and infusions.
Rob says he hopes the event will attract a good number of people from Suffolk and Norfolk, as they’re renowned for their interest in good quality, healthy and pioneering produce.
“Times have changed,” he said. “And there’s more choice than ever in terms of low alcohol beers to appeal to drinkers who want to cut back on their alcohol consumption but don’t want to compromise on taste.”
The Big Drop range consists of five different 0.5% beer.
The Club Soda Mindful Drinking Festival is from 11am to 6pm and entry is free.
