A marquee hire and event management company from near Newmarket is targeting expansion after securing a £20,000 grant.

The Highfield Event Group, based at Burwell, has been awarded funding under the Signpost 2 Grants programme run by the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Highfield director Garry Chapman said the grant would enable the business to support more events and increase staff numbers.

“The business already works with a number of high-end clients including Cambridge University, its colleges, departments and regular annual events as well as providing marquees for weddings and parties,” he said. “The grant will enable us to undertake more high-end events and importantly employ two additional members of staff.”

Laura Welham-Halstead, head of communications and connectivity at the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough LEP, said: “The success of the Highfield Event Group Ltd and its desire to expand makes it a perfect fit for the Signpost 2 Grants scheme. We would like to congratulate them on their successful grant and wish them well for the future.”

Signpost 2 Grants offers grants of between £2,000 and £20,000 for local small and medium-sized businesses which are looking to invest in new equipment, new machinery, improvements to their premises, or other capital purchases. The grants can be used to fund up to 20% of a total project cost, to provide businesses with the extra help they need to grow.

To be eligible, businesses must be located within the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough LEP area, which covers Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, West Suffolk, West Norfolk, Uttlesford, North Hertfordshire, South Holland and South Kesteven.
