New owners take on celebrated delicatessen

A celebrated Aldeburgh delicatessen is being taken over by a father and daughter team.
After 10 years, Richard Lawson and Claire Bruce-Clayton, founders of Lawson’s Delicatessen, are handing over the reins to Clare Jackson and John Omerod.
Managing Lawson’s is a dream for Clare, who has a passion for cheese and for Suffolk food and drink produced. Clare and John have been visiting Aldeburgh for more than 30 years and Clare has recently moved to live near Woodbridge with her husband and young family. Running Lawson’s marks the end of a career break for ex-accountant Clare who has been a full-time mother for the last few years.
Clare and John share an ambition to reinvigorate the popular delicatessen.
“The more I learn about cheese the more I want to share that knowledge with others and to celebrate the incredible quality of artisan cheese produced in the UK. I’m also excited by the quality and diversity of food and drink produced in Suffolk from Pump Street Bakery’s bread and chocolate to High House’s delicious fruit. We will continue to support local producers,” said Clare.
“Lawson’s has always prided itself on being a friendly, welcoming shop with knowledgeable staff, selling carefully sourced and delicious food. We’re committed to offering the same level of service with the existing team and we are thrilled that Lawson’s co-founder Claire Bruce-Clayton will continue to work in the business for several months to support a smooth transition.”
Claire said they were “delighted” to be handing Lawson’s over to Clare and John, who shared their enthusiasm for good food.
“We wish them every success with the future. We would also like to thank our many loyal customers for their support over the years,” she said.
Claire will continue to provide her catering service from the kitchen at Lawson’s.
Lawson’s Delicatessen will be close from Saturday 21 - Thursday 26 January 26, for redecoration. It will reopen on Friday, January 27.
