Wilkin & Son

More than 2,500 visitors descended on Wilkin & Sons’ Tiptree fruit farm to enjoy the strawberries during Open Farm Sunday on June 16.

As farm gates opened across the country, visitors poured onto the farm to enjoy trailer rides and Lodge Coaches’ period buses tours along the farm track where they saw thousands of strawberry plants, the orchards and fields of wheat.

“Each year we are amazed at the number of visitors who are keen to learn about farming and to taste the different varieties of strawberries, the delicious cakes and to sample the gins,” said joint managing director Chris Newenham.

“Encouraging young people to have a greater understanding of where there food comes from is vital for the future of British farming and we are delighted to be part of Open Farm Sunday.”

Children enjoyed a host of attractions, including piglets from Wicks Manor at Tolleshunt Major.
