Wild Waves is on the market and available in stores from today.

Not content with being an award-winning beer and spirit producer, East Anglian-based Adnams is tapping into the growing trend for craft ciders by launching brand new product, Wild Wave, made with 100% English apples, and inspired by the region’s coastline.

The brand advise the cider (available in 330ml cans, 5l mini kegs and on tap in selected locations) should be served at “North Sea temperatures”, with Adnams master brewer Fegus Fitzgerald saying of the new development: “We’ve been brewing beer, making spirits and have enjoyed a great reputation for our wines for a number of years, but we’ve never made a cider before. What most people don’t know is that cider is much more of a winemaking process than it is a brewing process so James, our master of wine, and I experimented with a lot of blends to eventually craft the perfect blend for Wild Wave. With Wild Wave, we tried to get the blend of bittersweet and dessert apples right, so there’s a bit more tannin than you might find in some ciders and I think that really works.”

Fergus and James came up withthe idea of creating a premium, fruity, cider “so refreshing it would feel like a splash in the face” while walking along a beach in Southwold, and source their apples from the foothills of the Malvern Hills - an area known for its excellent cider heritage.

They use a blend of 50% bittersweet and 50% dessert apples for the final product, which is fermented with the finest Champagne and wild yeasts to create a bright, sparkling drink with aromas of apple, cut grass and a hint of mango.

Prices start from £1.79 for a can up to £16.99 for a mini keg.
