Suffolk home furnishings business Glasswells officially opened a discount furniture outlet in Sudbury yesterday, more than ten years after it previously traded in the town.
Store managers Peter and Rosemary Woodward cut the ribbon at the store on North Street on Thursday morning and have reported that “trade was busy all day”.
Glasswells first opened in Sudbury in 1979 after it bought the former Alstons furniture store on North Street and, despite having closed the shop in 2004, it has retained ownership of the building. After former tenant Sports World moved out in July, Bury St Edmunds-based Glasswells decided to re-open the unit with Peter and Rosemary, who both worked in the original Sudbury shop, coming out of retirement.
Paul Glasswell, managing director, added: “We look forward to having a store in Sudbury again for the foreseeable future and we are confident it will be a great success with Rosemary and Peter in charge.”
