Hoseasons’ home region is now its most popular location for 2019 bookings

Investment and improved accommodation quality has helped a self-catering holiday specialist bump up summer revenue from its East Anglian sites by almost a fifth.

Hoseasons recorded a jump in bookings over the summer period, with Norfolk and Suffolk outperforming its average increase across the country.

Holidays in Suffolk were up by more than a quarter (28%) year-on-year while holidays in Norfolk rose by 11%.

And the counties are continuing to grow in popularity, with the East of England so far Hoseasons’ most popular destination for 2019 bookings – ahead of the West Country and Yorkshire.

The Lowestoft-based company said the biggest areas of growth in summer 2018 had been across its cottages portfolio, which has seen year-on-year increases in bookings of 25% in Norfolk and 15% in Suffolk, in the luxury lodges sector, which has seen a 30% increase in Suffolk alone, and its Go Active holidays range, which encompasses sites including Richardsons’ Hemsby Beach Holiday Park.

Simon Altham, managing director of revenue, said investment throughout the group had helped bookings grow.

“Clearly the sunshine has played a role in these increases, but warm and dry weather alone is not enough to make people holiday in the UK,” he said.

“Within Suffolk and Norfolk we’ve seen the quality of accommodation and investment have a big impact on lodge and park bookings as holidaymakers demand even more from their UK break, and this has extended into attractions and the food and beverage sector.”

He added that Hoseasons’ national distribution platforms had helped to put the counties “on the map”.

“On the one hand we can engage with travel agents in Scotland, while on the other, we can use digital marketing to reach millennials in London,” he said.

Other accommodation providers in the region have also seen strong increases in 2019 bookings. Norfolk Cottages said it had seen a fivefold increase for bookings of six days or less for 2019 – compared with a 33% increase in bookings of the same length between 2017 and 2018 – and bookings for longer breaks are up 42%, with the majority of the increase being for May to August.
