May Berkouwer Textile Conservation became the first tenant on the Brundon Lane Industrial Estate in 2007 and specialises in conserving of all kinds of historic textiles, tapestries, interior wall hangings, flags and banners.

Over the past decade its clients have included the National Trust, the Victorian and Albert Museum, as well as numerous private clients.

The open days allowed visitors to see some of the company’s work and learn about the techniques they use.

Company owner May Berkouwer said: “By conserving textiles and fabrics we can make them easier to read which adds to people’s understanding of history and their aesthetic enjoyment.”

She added; ““A big chunk of the work we do is deciding how to preserve them for the next generation or two.”
