Household expenses and other outgoings cost people living in the East of England more than £3,000 a month an average, a new report claims.

The total average household spend of £3,152.87 includes the highest travel expenses outside London, at £156.32 a month, plus mortgage and rent repayments costs of £824.08 and debt repayments of £744.10.

Spending on the home came to £326.07 with bills accounting for £232.44 a month, while “having fun” came to £584.64 a month and spending on appearance totalled £108.01.

The figures from personal finance manager Money Dashboard come from analysis of more than three million transactions across the UK across 10 categories.

Maria Anaplioti, insights analyst at Money Dashboard, said the amount being spent on loan and credit card repayments was “a concern”.

“Setting a monthly budget with a savings target is a great way to stem the debt flow,” she said.
