Mumsnet users' seal of approval for growing Suffolk glamping business Ivy Grange Farm

A glamping firm hoping to banish memories of sodden sleeping bags and leaking tents is catching the eye of campers after an upmarket break.

Kim and Nick Hoare launched their luxury camping venture at Ivy Grange Farm, in Halesworth, six years ago, after relocating from London in the search of a better quality of life.

Since then, their five yurts - round, covered tents traditionally used by nomads in the steppes of central Asia - have drawn in families and couples from all over the country looking for a getaway complete with familiar home comforts.

The pair, who are on the EADT/EDT Green 100 list for sustainable businesses, are now picking up national recognition in polls run by Mumsnet website and Cool Camping magazine.

Mrs Hoare, 55, said: “Right from when we started, everything picked up quite quickly. The first year we were still living in London so we managed it over the summer to see what people liked and didn’t like.

“There are now glamping sites everywhere but at the time there wasn’t much competition, and I think we benefitted from that, by having a lot of lovely guests when we first started who have kept coming back since.”

The three-acre meadow boasts five yurts with wood-burners, camping gas stoves and barbecues, mains-powered woodland showers and even a pizza oven.

Mrs Hoare, who previously worked in television, put their success down to the nostalgia of halcyon family holidays.

“It was interesting because when we started we thought we would mainly see couples, but we’ve predominantly had families,” she said.

“For a lot of people it is about trying to recreate the family holiday that we used to have when all had less money and went camping, or caravanning.

“Now, being able to do that without packing your car full of things and knowing when you arrive all the hassle has been taken out of putting up your tent and so on is a massive draw.”

She added that visitors had come from as far as Scotland and that the London and Home Counties market had been particularly fruitful for the venture.
