New centre to help tackle social isolation

Sudbury business, 1 Oak Home Care, is launching a new day centre in Acton, Sudbury for the elderly and others within the community.

1 Oak Home care was started by local business woman Angel Doyle, at the beginning of 2017.

The new centre is intended to provide a haven at a time when isolation is on the rise among those aged 65 and above.

Managing director Angel Doyle said: “Having a day centre has been a goal of ours since we started the company, and for us to bea able to tackle social isolation so soon after opening our doors for home care has been a very proud moment for the whole team.

“We are looking forward to getting involved in this project, and for me personally I look forward to to spending time with new people.”

She said they had identified a need for somewhere for people to socialise, whilst doing a range of actitities, in a safe environment supported and managed by carers.

The day centre would cater for those aged over 65 years, including those with dementia, sensory loss, Parkinson’s and those who had suffered a stroke.

Activities will range from tradtional bingo games to arts and crafts, hair and beauty, recipe sharing, yoga and chair yoga, dancing and singing, computer activities and activities with children and animals.

Paula Adam added: “The day centre is something that is a great space for people to get to know others, All evidence points towards mental wellbeing hving a great impact on physical wellbeing.
